Wellness Programs

What types of programs promote employee wellness?
Health R.O.C’s
(Resources on Campus)
Employee Wellness, in conjunction with HP/W 410 – Marketing and Promotion, acts as a link to programming for nine different groups that represent employees on the UWSP campus.
The marketing mission for HP/W 410 is to
✓ Inform employees and employers about wellness and safety programming targeted at modifiable risks associated with UWSP employee demographics.
✓ Encourage employees to take advantage of the various program resources offered through different groups on campus. These resources represent the employees’ on campus (UWSP EW Health R.O.C’s) and in the community, while eliminating duplication of programming.
✓ Promote UWSP Employee Wellness as a demonstration teaching model in which Pre-professional Health Promotion students can learn first hand about a state of the art employee wellness program.
Employee Wellness takes the necessary steps to become familiar with other on and off campus health and wellness events. Employee Wellness also acts as a promotional link between various employee programming efforts. By taking the necessary steps, this will facilitate our attempts to present different kinds of wellness programs. Together, we can increase promotion, acquire feedback from employee interest surveys, and refer employees to appropriate programs.

Readers will find the latest information on strength and power training and learn how to apply it to improve the functional abilities of older adults. The text provides a framework to help readers make the critical shift from expectations of decline to an age-neutral focus on maximizing functional ability. The text, formerly titled "Exercise Programming for Older Adults, " has been thoroughly updated to reflect the broad-based focus encompassing all aspects of wellness rather than just fitness. The author introduces the whole-person wellness concept, which fully engages individuals and helps them succeed in their pursuit of lifelong health and well-being. Specific strategies and exercises are presented to help professionals integrate the six dimensions of wellness (physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and vocational) into their programs. Both students and professionals can learn and improve programming efforts using the following features: 120 land-based programming options including chair, chair-assisted, low-impact aerobic, and resistance-training exercises 72 water-based programming options including range of motion, flotation and aerobic exercises, and exercises for clients with arthritis, all fully illustrated with underwater photos Case studies and testimonials that illustrate the potential results from participation in wellness and exercise programs A progression of exercises for both land- and water-based programs that allow greater flexibility to meet individual needs Wellness wrap-ups at the end of each chapter that emphasize the psychosocial aspects that can enhance and promote exercises and overall wellness Project MOVE, an approach that uses psychosocial research to motivate older adults to engage in wellness offerings "Exercise and Wellness for Older Adults" gives readers the knowledge and tools to change their mind-set and approach to programming, helping their clients improve their overall fitness, health, and vitality. |

Healthy Breaks: Wellness Activities for the Classroom $23.77 We live in a "cupcake culture" that celebrates everything with food–often food that’s not good for us. That’s one of the reasons that the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for children ages 2 to 5 and 12 to 19 in the past 30 years, and more than tripled for kids ages 6 to 11 during that same time span. Jenine De Marzo is out to change that culture. She provides all the tools you need to do so in "Healthy Breaks: Wellness Activities for the Classroom." This book is filled with teacher-tested 5-to 10-minute activities that take little preparation time and can be done in the classroom, not just in the gym or outdoors. "Healthy Breaks" promotes healthy lifestyles, beginning with daily wellness activities in the classroom. The activities supplement the physical education and health education programs by promoting natural activity throughout the day. De Marzo also provides suggestions for using these activities in place of the food-centered celebrations that occur throughout the school year. "Healthy Breaks" presents the following features: – Tools for kindergarten through sixth-grade classroom and health teachers to promote wellness and provide health-related activities in the classroom – Activities for before- and after-school program leaders to increase physical activity and wellness – Clear and concise instructions that make it easy for any teacher to engage students in physical activity and academic learning – Tools for meeting objectives of national wellness policies set by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Schools are uniquely positioned to influence students’ health and wellness. With this resource, classroom teachers can easily integrate activities in their daily schedule. Not only are the activities fun, but they also address the problem of childhood obesity that is rampant in North America. They also aid in meeting objectives of wellness policies set by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. "Healthy Breaks" can be used as a supplemental guide for classroom teachers who want to integrate health, wellness, and movement within their classrooms, as well as an additional guide for physical educators who have limited gym space and resources. And, perhaps best of all, the resource can be used in transforming our "cupcake culture" into a health and wellness culture. |
